I Will Never Forget

I remember 25 years ago today like it was yesterday. I live 11 miles north of Boston, and at the time, I worked in Framingham, Massachusetts. The staff meeting at 9 a.m. was interrupted by frantic phone calls about the tragedy unfolding. We returned to our desks and, minutes later, were sent home to be with our families.

My 27-mile drive home was eerie. The sky is normally crisscrossed with contrails from jets en route to and from Boston's Logan International Airport, but they were conspicuously absent from the stunningly beautiful bright blue above. Of course, my experience was light-years away from what thousands were going through in Manhattan.

It's hard to believe there's a whole generation that wasn't born or is too young to remember September 11, 2001. I will never forget.

A few years ago, Fernando Mora took me on a tour of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, where he is the vice president of multimedia and design. I was speechless. If there's any place where the technology should disappear, it is at this museum. The exhibit design and integration of audiovisual technology are thoughtful and poignant.

Over the years, Fernando has presented and participated in our AV/IT Summits, and appeared on the cover of AV Technology. He recently gave an interview to Systems Contractor News about the AV technology upgrades at the museum. Thank you for your friendship, Fernando.

Messages of Remembrance at 9/11 Memorial Museum
