The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine has formed partnerships with the University of Guam, Guam Memorial Hospital and Guam Regional Medical Center to offer medical students training opportunities. The collaboration aims to address physician shortages in medically underserved areas. "NYITCOM has a long history of working with medically-underserved communities to help address issues regarding access to healthcare and health education," said Shane Speights, DO, dean of NYITCOM's Arkansas campus.

A study in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Researchfound that a new technology is more effective than standard bone density tests at detecting fracture risk in older women. The technology measures bone strength by testing how well bones resist bending. "Our current standard test misses far too many people who are at risk," said lead investigator Brian Clark, PhD, of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

AACOM applauds the appointment of Brian A. Kessler, DO, DHA, MS, to the U.S. Department of Education's negotiated rulemaking committee on Accreditation, Innovation and Modernization (AIM). Nominated by AACOM, Dr. Kessler will serve as an alternate negotiator representing programmatic accrediting agencies.
